Biden has won the US elections, suddenly decided because of the huge number of votes in Pennsylvania. We cried in relief for them though his beautiful speech, where he said his first task would be to deal with the pandemic which has ravaged the world but particularly the US- now about 235,000 deaths, which Trump has always ignored. Biden hasn’t. He pointed out that more than 1000 people are now dying a day in the US – that’s a lot of empty chairs in dining rooms and kitchens, a lot of suffering. 75 million votes for him have been counted so far, the biggest turn out to elect a president in Amerca’s history, whereas Trump has 70 million- a lot but not enough. Many of these Trump voters must think that Trump was powerless against the virus, unaware of what was done way over in New Zealand,what was done here in Australia. I can go a way to understanding this because in my time in America, I constantly knew that many of the people I came into contact with- I was an academic there and came into contact with hundreds – didn’t look to the outside world. “Travel” to them was to go to another state in America. It’s been reported that many Americans don’t even have a passport.
So Trump couldn’t have prevented those deaths? Victorian State Premier Daniel Andrews, when the virus broke out there and the deaths climbed up to 700, took strict measures of a a 3 month lockdown, and now everyday is a”donut day”- no cases. 000000.
Trump is not conceding, claiming widespread voter fraud, but has not produced evidence.
Whatever Trump is doing- he seems to be playing golf- the US has erupted in scenes everywhere of joy.
